New Finds for The Kitchen
Hey there! Hope everyone had a great weekend. My hubby brought home some things the other day for me and this one particular thing, I just fell in love with. And its perfect for Valentines Day.
How cute is this old coffee tin?? So cute! I filled it with one of my favorites, tulips. I just love that you can find fresh tulips in my local grocery store during late January and February. So, I treat myself to some each week when I shop for groceries. They are such a cheery addition to the house during the drab winter months.
My other find is from Etsy. I just love Etsy and always try to support handmade when I can. There are some wonderful sellers there and I could spend hours looking in their shops. Anyone who knows me knows that I love to cook. It is one of my passions. I have a couple of knives that Ive had forever and they were always getting thrown into the drawer with my other kitchen gadgets, dulling the blades. So my hubby had my knives professionally sharpened for me for a surprise.
Well, now that they are perfectly sharp and slide through a tomato like butter, I didnt dare throw them back into that drawer, so I went looking for something to keep them in. Ive always loved those magnet wall knife holders and found the perfect one on Etsy. And the best part is that its made from sustainably harvested walnut, my favorite. And did I mention, its gorgeous!?
It goes perfectly with my walnut cutting board, also a gift from my hubby many years ago and such a cherished piece in my kitchen.
Im in love.....

Woodworking items now for sale!
Well, since I have been sidelined with my knee injury, I thought I would get into turning pens. Ive had a lot of fun doing it so Ive taken the next step and I have put some up for sale. I have opened a store front on Etsy.com. Right now I only have a few pens up there, but Im going to be putting more up there so you can subscribe to my store as a feed. Later on, I am also going to build some small boxes and put them up there as well. Again, Im just a hobbyist, but if you can make a little money here and there, why not. Etsy is nice because it is dedicated to handmade items and their costs are very reasonable. So, check out the store...feedback welcome!

Large Black and White Abstract Art for the Office
Hi! I hope that you had a great weekend! Ours went by way too fast, but we did get a a lot done. Including moving the office around! Ive been wanting to move things around for a while, but the credenza is SO heavy, weve been putting it off.
The proportions + color of the pin board werent working with the rest of the space, so I decided to make a large scale abstract painting instead. I pinned this a few weeks and I kept going back to it, I love the punch of contrast that it adds to the space. So I decided to make my own version! I think it looks like a close up of coral, so I love the reference to the beach without being overly beachy :) Large scale abstract black and white paintings have been in recently, check out Bliss at Homes, Scout and Nimbles and The Hunted Interiors as well.
Ill share a short tutorial a little later, but for now here are a few pictures of our new office space.
David found these Hydrangeas in in a field while on a bike ride. Love!!
I created the frame from left over wood, so total cost for the frame was zero (isnt that always the best!)
I moved my lucite tray from the driftwood table and put a piece of wrapping paper on the bottom (from Target dollar section) to round up my pencils and other office supplies.
Finally, a view from the kitchen. Im loving the new arrangement! I really wish I would of done this a long time ago, but better late than never! This was the last project for the office (maybe a few frames to the left of the desk), so Ill have a room tour soon!

Art for Above the Headboard Take 1
This weekend we hung the prints above the headboard

These are the supplies I started with (minus the drop cloth which I returned because it had a plastic backing and purchased muslin instead
I cut the drawing paper and muslin to size and spray mounted the fabric to the paper - it doesnt need to be perfect because the edges are covered, but the corners need to be attached to go through the printer (I also later cut the loose threads off so they wouldnt get caught in the printer)
I painted the frames with some left over paint and cut mats out of the the same drawing paper
Also, while I was taking the glass out of the frame - one broke - this is the cheapest glass ever! (David agreed too!) so for safety precautions (since it is above sleeping heads) I purchased a cheap large frame with the plastic instead of glass - cut to size - and swapped all of the glass for plastic - We also used screws to attach them to the wall and picture hanging command strips for added strength - so they are really up there!
Unfortunately once they were hung I wasnt over the moon about them ... I like them a lot ... but not here - I am going to see what else I can come up with today!
I was also able to finish the ombre table for the entry way over the weekend! Check back for photos!

Lamp Makeover for Master Bedroom
Ive been looking for a pair of lamps or one to go with the existing lamp in the bedroom for a while now. Home Goods used to be my go to source for lamps when we lived in Tennessee, but since California doesnt have one, I have been out of luck.
All of the lamps that I like are $100 and up, I dont mind investing in a good quality lamp, but since we will be most likely moving every 2 -5 years for Davids job, and only get a limited amount of weight covered in a move - it makes sense hold off on more expensive pieces until we have a more permanent home.
I plan to sell a lot of furniture/accessories prior to moving to reduce weight ... and if they dont sell - I wont have to worry about expensive things getting broken by the movers!
Enter the lamps that I found on Craigslist for $5 each
In need of a little - okay A LOT of updating! but they have a good shape and nothing that a can of spray paint and new lamp shades cant fix
I scuffed up the metal and with steel wool and taped off the top and cord
Sprayed with primer - let dry for about an hour - lightly sanded with extra fine sandpaper (320 grit) - wiped off with a microfiber cloth
I then sprayed it with RustOleum - Ivory Bisque - Semi Gloss (two coats - allowing to dry about 45 minutes in between)

I had already purchased lampshades a while back - so after I put those on they were ready to go!
It is amazing what a little spray paint and a new shade can do - they look completely different!
and lastly, Annabelle checking out the dresser that we picked up over the weekend for $15 - Ive been looking a while for another dresser for the other side of the bed with no luck - it is too short so last night David made it taller so that it would be the same height as the other dresser. He also fixed the drawer.
for $25 - Craigslist pulled through this weekend - now the bedroom is almost done. After I finish the dresser and swap the overhead light, it will be complete!
This post doesnt address any of the projects that I talked about on Friday - but they are still in the works and I promise to share photos when there are updates - too many project too little time!
